Disk Creator El Capitan

El Capitan is the final version to be released under the name OS X. OS X El Capitan received far better reviews than did Yosemite. The first beta of OS X El Capitan was released to developers shortly following the WWDC keynote on June 8, 2015. The first public beta was made available on July 9, 2015.

To create a bootable El Capitan installer drive, you need the El Capitan installer from the Mac App Store and a Mac-formatted drive that’s big enough to hold the installer and all its data. Purchase Mac OS X Lion installer on the Apple Store. When it was still Lion DiskMaker, DiskMaker X had the ability to burn DVDs too. Older versions are available here. Download DiskMaker 2.0.2 ( ZIP file, about 3 MB). NB: this version of DiskMaker X is not able to build a Mavericks installer from Mac OS X 10.6.8.

MacOS Disk Creator offers you the possibility to effortlessly create a bootable USB featuring an OS X version downloaded from the Mac App Store, while also deploying the custom Clover EFI bootloader.

Easy to configure utility that creates a bootable OS X image on a USB drive

MacOS Disk Creator runs on specific versions of the Mac operating system (Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, and macOS Sierra), and can use OS X installer images starting from Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

To make things easier for the user, MacOS Disk Creator comes with a configuration process that resembles a setup assistant: it will take you through all the essential steps, and you must only direct the app to the source image, provide the admin password, and press confirmation buttons.

Follow the on-screen instructions to include the Clover EFI bootloader in the image

Right off the bat, you must direct the utility to the source OS X image you want to use. By default, the Mac App Store utility downloads the installer apps in the Applications directory. The next step is to format the USB drive: MacOS Disk Creator directs you to the Disk Utility application.

As soon as you complete the formatting task, MacOS Disk Creator resumes the setup process, but you do have the option to stop if you changed your mind.

Otherwise, MacOS Disk Creator will go ahead and install everything on its own, but you should keep an eye on the process to press all the confirmation buttons.

MacOS Disk Creator will install the Clover EFI bootloader by default, which means that, even though the source installer comes from the Mac App Store, the bootable USB can be used with Hackintosh machines.

Streamlined solution for quickly making bootable drives that sport a custom bootloader

All in all, MacOS Disk Creator proposes a user-friendly solution for creating a USB image that bypasses the Apple hardware restrictions. The app takes care of everything on its own and deploys the Clover EFI bootloader without any additional strain on the user.

Worth mentioning is that if you intend to use MacOS Disk Creator on macOS Sierra, you must make sure that you have configured the system to allow apps downloaded from anywhere. Contrarily, the utility will not be able to complete the task.
